Rutherfordton American Horizon Mural Mosaic

Rutherfordton was chosen to host the American Horizons international mural which was unveiled on April 22, 2025.

Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots is a unique initiative that aims to bring people from around the world together through the power of art. Each collaborative Mural Mosaic production invites people from communities everywhere to connect and celebrate their unity through their diverse expressions of art. With each tile placed in a mural, Global Roots is reconnecting the world through the joy of art – one tile, one mural mosaic, one country at a time.

We are honored to have the privilege to host such a wonderful project, especially in the aftermath of Helene and its lasting effects on Western North Carolina. Our Appalachian roots are strong and this mural really hits home for us as we stand our ground, rebuild and look to the future.

So many beautiful, heartfelt stories were shared with us during the unveiling of the mural.

We knew we had to find a way to honor those moments, to preserve and share them with all of you.

This project is more than just art. It’s a reflection of who we are as a community, our history, our spirit, and the love we have for our Small Town. It holds deep meaning for us, and seeing it come to life has been nothing short of magical. Seeing people from all over the world contribute to it alongside 200 local artists is inspirational.

A heartfelt thank you to Lewis Lavoie, the artist, whose vision and passion brought this dream into reality. Through his work, he has not only created something beautiful, but he’s also connected people in the most meaningful and unforgettable way.
